NHL Recent Player News
|2/25/2017||Luca Sbisa, Van, D|
|Sbisa exited Saturday's game against San Jose after two periods with what the team termed a stomach flu.
Analysis: The Canucks are dealing with an outbreak of the mumps that's known to have affected five players, including three defensemen. It's unclear whether Sbisa's illness is related. Either way, Vancouver will be dangerously thin on the backline if he too is forced to miss some time.
|2/25/2017||Calvin Pickard, Col, G|
|Pickard was kept out of Saturday's game against Buffalo due to neck stiffness.
Analysis: The injury isn't considered serious so Pickard could be back shortly.
|2/25/2017||Nick Foligno, Cls, LW|
|Foligno notched his first two-goal game of the season Sarturday in a rout of the Islanders.
Analysis: Foligno has four goals in five games after tallying three in his previous 13. He's nine goals away from matching the career-high 31 he had in 2014-15.
|2/25/2017||Thomas Greiss, NYI, G|
|Greiss had a dismal game Saturday in Columbus as he allowed three goals on 17 shots before he was pulled after one period.
Analysis: Greiss is 3-3-0 with a 2.93 GAA in his last seven games after going 5-1-1 with a 2.68 GAA in his previous seven.
|2/25/2017||Patrick Eaves, Anh, RW|
|Eaves made his Ducks debut Saturday in a 4-1 loss to the Kings one day after he was acquired from Dallas for a conditional second-round draft pick.
Analysis: Eaves was held without a point and registered five shots in 16 minutes of ice time playing on a line with Rickard Rakell and Corey Perry.
|2/25/2017||Tyler Toffoli, LA, C|
|Toffoli recorded his first two-goal game of the season Saturday in a win over Anaheim.
Analysis: Toffoli has seven goals in his last 14 games after scoring five times in his first 28 contests. He'll need quite a finish to come close to the 31 goals he netted last season.
|2/25/2017||Marian Gaborik, LA, RW|
|Gaborik was a healthy scratch for just the second time this season Saturday against the Ducks.
Analysis: Gaborik had not recorded a point in his previous nine games and has just six goals in 38 games this season.
|2/25/2017||Michael Chaput, Van, C|
|Chaput is one of several Canucks that has shown symptoms of mumps and will not play Saturday against San Jose.
Analysis: It's difficult to tell when Cahput will return, especially if he ends up having the mumps.
|2/25/2017||Kevin Klein, NYR, D|
|Klein is not expected to play Saturday against the Devils or Sunday against Columbus due to back spasms.
Analysis: Klein has three goals and 11 assists in 54 games this season.
|2/25/2017||Aleksander Barkov, Fla, C|
|The red-hot Barkov scored his 16th goal of the season Friday.
Analysis: Barkov has seven goals in his last eight games, also contributing two assists during that span. All but two of his goals this season have come since the beginning of December.
|2/25/2017||Matthew Tkachuk, Cgy, LW|
|Tkachuk registered a pair of assists Friday.
Analysis: Tkachuk moved past Johnny Gaudreau for the team lead with 30 assists. Eight of those have come in Calgary's last eight games, a span in which he's also scored twice. The rookie is a plus-7 during the Flames' current 4-0-1 stretch.
|2/25/2017||Troy Brouwer, Cgy, RW|
|Brouwer finished with a goal and an assist Friday.
Analysis: Brouwer had totaled just two points in his previous 19 games, so he remains an unreliable fantasy source.
|2/25/2017||Mikael Backlund, Cgy, C|
|Backlund scored for a third consecutive game Friday.
Analysis: With four goals in the past three games, Backlund is at 19 for the season and within two of a career high.
|2/25/2017||Christopher Tanev, Van, D|
|Tanev has been placed on injured reserve after showing symptoms of the mumps.
Analysis: There appears to be a mumps outbreak within the Canucks. Only Troy Stecher has been confirmed to have the mumps, but teammates Nikita Tryamkin, Mike Chaput and Markus Granlund have also shown symptoms.
|2/25/2017||Roberto Luongo, Fla, G|
|Luongo stopped just 24 of 28 shots in Friday's loss to the Flames.
Analysis: Luongo, who had been benched in favor of James Riemer in Florida's previous two games, took the loss on the same night he passed Ed Belfour for fourth place in NHL games played by a goalie with 964. He might not play in many more anytime soon considering he has a 3.95 GAA in his last 10 games.
|2/25/2017||Brock McGinn, Car, LW|
|McGinn (undisclosed) will miss Sunday's game against the Flames.
Analysis: Being unable to practice Saturday and getting ruled out a day in advance certainly aren't good signs. McGinn, though, could seemingly use a break with just two points in his last 14 games.
|2/25/2017||Braden Holtby, Was, G|
|Holtby turned aside 30 shots in Friday's 2-1 win over the Oilers.
Analysis: Holtby has yielded just four goals over his last three games. His 31 wins are one off the league lead.
|2/25/2017||Cam Talbot, Edm, G|
|Talbot made 23 saves in Friday's 2-1 loss at Washington.
Analysis: Despite having a personal four-game winning streak snapped, Talbot had a solid performance against arguably the league's most dangerous offense. He has a .931 save percentage in his last five starts.
|2/25/2017||Justin Williams, Was, RW|
|Williams scored his 19th goal of the season Friday.
Analysis: It was the first goal in seven games for Williams, who is on pace to score his most goals in any season since 2006-07.
|2/25/2017||Connor McDavid, Edm, C|
|McDavid managed an assist on the Oilers' only goal in Friday's loss at Washington.
Analysis: It was a frustrating night for McDavid, who had only one shot on goal as he was blanketed by Evengy Kuznetsov. McDavid still managed to increase his league-leading point total to 69, including nine in the past seven games.
